Dishwasher cutlery baskets

Over time the dishwasher cutlery basket can become worn and broken. This can be due to the extremes of heat and cold it endures during the wash cycle, causing the plastic to expand and contract and leading to cracks appearing. They will also be worn from the knifes and kitchen utensils that cut and scrape the soft plastic.

Metal Detectors

Man with metal detector on the Brighton Beach.

The metal detector is a must have for any would be treasure hunter.  You can use it down on a nice picturesque beach or at a countryside retreat! Metal detectors are a perfect way to get out for a nice long walk in an adorable setting. Whether you are hoping to find an old Anglo Saxon treasure haul or just a fifty pence coin someone has dropped, it always gives you a great rush to hear the ping of the detector going off. Most of the time it is just a rusty nail or an old tin can, but you never know and that is what is so fascinating about it!

The most basic configuration of metal detector uses a BFO or beat-frequency oscillator. If the coil passes over a metal object a magnetic field caused by the current is created over the object. As it gets nearer the object the frequency and tone of the radio waves emitted become quicker and help you to locate your bounty.

There are also other types of detector that use different types of technology to locate the metallic object these include Very low frequency and Pulse induction.

Not only are these used for treasure hunting but also for security where hand held metal detectors can be ideal to check for hidden personal weapons. You will see these used extensively in airports or large events.

Metal detectors come in a very large and varied range of products. These start at the cheaper easier to use models ideal for the new starter or part time enthusiast, up to the more expensive underwater models aimed at the professional die hard.

I would definitely recommend getting your hands on one as they are a lot of fun and you never know you could strike gold!

Disco Lights

Disco lights can change the mood of any party, you can have the best music available but without the correct lighting your party could easily turn into an embarrassing episode you would rather forget.

Selecting the right lighting for your party does not need to be difficult, although there are many lights to choose from any lighting is better than none but you can turn an average party into a great party by making the right choice.

If your party or disco is going to be in a small room or space it maybe that you can use just one type of disco light, if this is the case then selecting one of the single rotating disco balls will do the job. If possible place the item in a central part of the room, turn the room lights out and draw the curtains or blinds and switch the light on. The rotating disco lights will light up the room with many different colours and transform the mood.

For larger areas you could either increase the number of single rotating disco balls and place on the outer edge of the room or you could use the dual rotating disco ball, this product is a single unit but instead of having one rotating ball it has two. This creates a different effect with lots of lights shooting around the room. This is probably the most popular type and creates the best effect and can of course also be used in the smaller rooms also.

Another option would be to use the six way LED party light, this product has all the lights facing in one direction and can either be placed on it’s side or it can be laid flat to light up the ceiling. The lights can be activated by sound so as soon as the music starts the room will light up and work with the sound of the music. Placing it in the standard mode will give a constant chase of the lights, one following the next. The six way LED party light can be used on it’s own or also in conjunction with other lights to create a fantastic experience.

If you have more time on your hands or want to really impress then using a disco glitter ball with a light shining to it could be for you, although these are generally for the professional user they can be used anywhere you are able to create a fixing. There is a motor that drives the ball and this needs fixing to a ceiling and the ball can spin, there is a light that usually comes with this when sold as a kit and this just needs to be pointed in the direction of the ball. Colours can be changed by using a rotating colour wheel. Pointing a strobe light can add to the effect and this could provide the complete solution for most parties and events.

So if you want to provide an unforgettable experience using disco lights will will help set the right atmosphere for you.

Carbon monoxide Poisoning

Early symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning can be very difficult to detect,  often they can be confused with that of food poisoning, flu, viral infections or simple tiredness.

If you think you may have been at risk from carbon monoxide poisoning then it is essential you seek immediate medical attention, ask to be tested for CO poisoning, this test is usually a blood  test followed by an ECG but because carbon monoxide escapes the body quickly it is important to get the test done as soon as you become aware that you may have been exposed.

Symptoms to watch out for are tiredness, chest and or stomach pains, head aches and nausea, unusual behaviour and feeling dizzy, being sick and struggling with your eye site.  Higher levels of exposure will cause unconsciousness.

If you are found to have been exposed to carbon monoxide and have been poisoned you will be treated in hospital,  the treatment you would receive is 100% oxygen through a mask,  the air we breathe normally consists of around 20% oxygen.

carbon monoxide poisoning is the largest cause of accidental poisoning deaths in the UK and is responsible for more than 50 deaths per year.   Hundreds more are left brain damaged or seriously injured.

If poisoned with a very low level of carbon monoxide it is likely you will make a full recovery,  however up to 50% of   survivors with higher levels of carbon monoxide poisoning will be left with long term issues and problems can arise many years after being poisoned.

It is very difficult to detect carbon monoxide without a carbon monoxide alarm because it has no taste, colour or smell making it easy to breathe in without noticing.

Carbon monoxide is a risk in your home because it is produced by either gas, coal, wood and oil when they do not burn properly and there is a lack of ventilation.

For example an open house fire burning wood in an enclosed room without ventilation causes the oxygen to be used up and replaced with carbon dioxide,  Once all of the oxygen has been used up the fire will be starved of oxygen and will not burn correctly,  this then causes carbon monoxide to be created.

To protect you and your family from the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning make sure you are aware of the dangers and take preventative action.

For all hose hold appliances that run on gas including your central heating system and boiler ensure that regular servicing is carried out and a certificate obtained.  Ensure that all maintenance work is carried out and that the engineer who carries out the work is gas safety registered.

For open fires in the home make sure that your chimney is swept regularly, at least once a year is recommended but more frequently will not harm.  Chimney sweeps should be registered with either NACS, GMS or OFTEC  In addition you should make sure that rooms are well ventilated.

Do not leave petrol powered machines or vehicles running in a garage

Make sure that you have a carbon monoxide alarm
