If you see foam residue in your dishwasher or, in severe cases, foam oozes out of the door seal, you should turn off the appliance as soon as possible.

The cause of over-foaming is not a fault with the appliance itself, it is generally caused by human error by using a non-dishwasher detergent.  If you use gel caps for both your dishwasher and washing machine, there is a chance that you could pick up the wrong gel cap in error. Read More…

A Guide On The Correct Installation Of A Tumble Dryer

First – What type of dryer to choose

Everyone has different requirements they are looking for in a dryer, but a lot of people don’t realise that where you intend to site your dryer is very important.  Each type of dryer needs to be in an area where there is a free flow of air to allow the cool air to be taken into the appliance to start the drying process.  However, the temperature of the area where your dryer will be installed is also important.

Too low temperature: If the temperature drops very low during a winter period, a condenser or heat pump tumble dryer will not work.  Even worse, sometimes you think its working as the motor comes on and the clothes are rotated in the drum but unfortunately the dryer is unable to heat up sufficiently to dry the clothes.  This is because instead of the water condensing in the condenser of the dryer, it will start to condense of other cold surfaces within the dryer. In order for this type of dryer to work correctly the room temperature must be at least 5 Deg C.  You may have a dryer with an electronic display, which will indicate the temperature is too low and the appliance will not work at all.  Read More…

A Useful Guide Outlining How Electric Ovens Work

Regardless of the type of oven (or cooker) involved, the basic principles are the same. All ovens will use elements to provide the necessary heat.  An element is a thin gauge of wire in a spherical shape, or a thicker piece of wire which is then covered by a coating of powder, finished off by a metal outer.

Depending on the model type, an oven is basically made up by:

  • Lower base element
  • Fan element
  • Side elements
  • Grill element

Most of these elements are reliable but occasionally you may find that you have a ‘hot spot’ where the insulation is a bit thin or perhaps the inner wire could be too close to the outer sleeve. If this fault is present, you will notice it more or less straightaway and you should contact your manufacturer for a replacement.

You will be pleased to know that if you have a problem with an element and you are out of your Warranty period, as long as you know the make and model of your appliance, you should have no problem sourcing a replacement. Read More Here…

Washing Machine Buying Guide To Help With Your New Purchase

Advice on which Washing Machine to Buy

It is quite a tricky issue to decide on which washing machine to buy, whether it is your first purchase or a replacement for an older machine.  There are a lot of things to take into account, such as:

  • Price and your budget
  • Look and finishSize
  • Energy rating
  • Drum size
  • Number of programmes
  • Spin speeds
  • Free standing
  • Integrated (also known as built-in)
  • Dimensions of machine

It can be quite a nightmare to reach a decision that you will be happy with. Obviously the washing machines at the lower end of the price scale are attractive when you have a small budget, but they may not be as energy efficient and could end up costing you more to run.  Also if the drum size is insufficient for your needs it will mean that you will need to use the machine more than you would want.

Most washing machines are of a very similar size, between 80-90cm high x 50-60cm wide x 50-60cm deep. If you have a limited space for the washing machine, you should disregard anything that will not fit – that’s a start anyway.

You will obviously know whether you want a free-standing machine, which is one that just fits into an empty space in your kitchen.  An integrated (built-in) machine is manufactured with a flat front allowing a matching door to be fitted over the top, so that it matches the rest of the cabinets in your kitchen –  thereby causing you to run round your kitchen opening every door until you find the appliance you need!

Please bear in mind that, in most cases, an integrated machine will be more expensive.  Read More Here…
